Smokefree Barnsley visit Falkirk Scotland | Date: 23.01.2007

council crestSmoke Free Barnsley took a small group to Falkirk on a fact-finding mission to see what the legislation will mean in practice. During the two days they spoke to a number of key individuals including the Head of Tobacco Policy and Public Health at the Scottish Executive, Smoking Enforcement Officers and representatives from the licensed trade.

It is 10 months since smokefree legislation was introduced in Scotland and it has been a huge success with smooth implementation, high levels of compliance and public support. Many people also reported that they now have a healthier work environment and are sure it will benefit their health in the long term.

The introduction of smokefree legislation prompts many to try to give up smoking - Falkirk experienced a three-fold increase in numbers accessing help to stop smoking. To ensure people are fully supported Barnsley Stop Smoking Service have extended the Town Centre Quit Shop opening hours to Tuesday 10AM – 4PM, Wednesday 10AM – 7PM, Friday 10AM – 4PM and Saturday 10AM – 1PM.
